EBF (the European Banking Federation) works at the heart of the European banking sector. Our daily activities are determined by the dynamics between European integration, finance, public policy and financial regulation. It is our job to bring together 33 national banking associations in Europe and represent some 3,500 banks – large and small, wholesale and retail, local and international.

The Position

The European Banking Federation seeks to recruit, for a full-time position based in Brussels, a Finance Officer.

The purpose of the role is to ensure the accuracy, integrity and efficiency of EBF’s financial and administrative operations. The Finance Officer bears the overall responsibility for EBF’s financial administration as well as the annual planning and reporting cycle. This responsibility includes budgeting, financial controlling and reporting, accounting administration, procurement and supplier management, and the administration of EBF’s real estate arrangements in Brussels and Frankfurt. The role combines a broad array of operational responsibilities with tactical and strategic planning and advice.

Working closely with the COO, external accountant, auditors, banks, suppliers, landlords and subtenants, the role combines financial expertise with a hands-on and proactive approach to managing EBF’s day-to-day financial and operational needs.

Detailed Responsibilities:

  • Support the preparation, implementation and follow-up in relation to EBF’s annual budget and financial plans;
  • Manage EBF’s financial systems, assuring their integrity, reliability and conformity with external best practices for mid-sized organizations;
  • Draft periodic financial reports, analyses and management information for the Senior Leadership Team and governance bodies;
  • Monitor financial performance, analyse variances and contribute to financial planning and decision-making;
  • Maintain the accounting structure, including the chart of accounts, cost centres and accruals;
  • Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable processes, including incoming and outgoing invoices;
  • Process employee expense claims and ensure compliance with internal procedures;
  • Coordinate with the external accountant on payroll reconciliations, VAT declarations, annual accounts and statutory obligations
  • Manage relationships with banking partners and support treasury optimisation activities;
  • Act as the primary contact point for external auditors and financial, tax or VAT audits;
  • Manage supplier relationships and oversee supplier contracts, renewals and procurement activities;
  • Coordinate the procurement of goods and services and contribute to cost optimisation initiatives;
  • Manage contractual and financial relations with EBF’s subtenants in Brussels and Frankfurt;
  • Administer sublease agreements, addenda and related invoicing;
  • Liaise with landlords on lease administration, contract renewals and rent indexation matters;
  • Fulfill a coordinating or leading role in various projects;
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of financial processes, controls and reporting.

Successful candidates fit the following profile

  • University degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration or a related field;
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in finance, controlling, accounting or financial management;
  • Strong experience in budgeting, reporting, financial analysis and database management;
  • Good knowledge of accounting principles, financial controls and statutory compliance requirements;
  • Experience working with external accountants, auditors and financial institutions;
  • Experience in procurement, supplier management and contract administration;
  • Advanced Microsoft Office user particularly Excel, Sharepoint and Teams.
  • Excellent analytical, organisational and stakeholder-management skills;
  • Strong command of English, both written and spoken;
  • Hands-on, proactive and solution-oriented mindset;
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic international environment.
